Golden Spike National Historical Park

Golden Spike National Historical Park

Quite literally in the middle of no where, the Jupiter and the No. 119 came together in a meeting that would change the country forever. The Union Pacific from the east and the Central Pacific from the west met here on May 10th, 1869 creating the transcontinental railroad.

The Golden Spike National Historical Park at Promontory Point includes these amazing replica engines that still function and are truly beautiful juxtaposed against the relatively barren landscape in northern Utah.

I could have photographed these engines forever. Such a cool place. Here's just a few of the shots I took on TMAX and GOLD film.

We caught them moving the engines back to the engine house and realized that they are powered by different fuels. The Union Pacific from the east was powered by coal and the Central Pacific from the west was powered by wood.
