Friday October 20, 2006

Friday morning we ventured off into Anne’s land. We started the trip with the Birthplace of Lucy Maud Montgomery. As luck would have it, a Japanese tour had gone through, which meant that the typically closed museum was open for our patronage. It was great seeing all of her scrap books and other personal affects. The tiny home is in its original location and essentially nothing has been changed. We purchased some postcards and made our way on to Green Gables National Park. The Canadian park was created on the original farm that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery to share her stories. Meg and I walked through the barn, the Green Gables house, and then on to Lover’s Lane for a stroll through the woods. We hit up the gift shop for a few items, namely my PEI Potato refrigerator magnet! We grabbed lunch in Stanley Bridge and checked out a craft, art, and gift store that was on the same property. One great thing about traveling the area at the end of the season is that everything, and I mean everything, is on sale! Meg loves a good sale! Actually, we both do! After a few purchases, we headed to Green Gables Museum at Silver Bush, which is the site of inspiration and the actual Shining Waters. Meg and I actually took a carriage ride along Shining Waters all the way to the beach where we got out and strolled along looking for sea glass and taking pictures. It’s amazing how friendly people are here on the island. Our carriage driver was great to chat with. Such nice people! We headed out for a pottery shop that we had passed earlier in the day. Village Pottery was actually right down the street from the Lucy Maud Montgomery Birthplace. They had some beautiful pieces, and we just couldn’t help picking some up. Besides, it was all on sale! They were nice enough to give us a welcome heart, or something like that, that is in the shape of a heart and holds a few small wild flowers, like baby’s breath, or something of that size. They gave us the choice of one from the entire store, which was very nice. After the pottery, we headed across the street and found a maps and rare books gallery. It was in this old barn that was completely renovated. It was immaculate inside, and served perfectly for the books, maps, and other consignment art pieces. We looked around for a bit and then found ourselves getting a bit hungry. We decided that we would try to find our way to Charlottetown. Once there, we drove around a bit looking for some places that caught our eye. We consulted the tour book, and it pointed us at a pub style restaurant that no longer existed. In its location, however, now stands a brand new pub by the name of Hunter’s Ale House. We had some great food at great proportions. The onion rings were amazing! I had a huge chicken club sandwich, and Meg had the chicken ceaser wrap. Being completely stuffed, we walked around for a bit trying to find an internet café that was open. Having no luck, we found ourselves in a new and used book store. After perusing a bit, we got a craving for some Ben and Jerry’s. We found ourselves at a Supercenter, which is actually a pretty nice grocery store. We enjoyed some ice cream and then retired to the Beach House for the nite.
