We awoke to the smell of artisan quiche and hurried down to enjoy it, plus fresh fruit, granola, and yogurt parfait. It was delicious! After packing up and checking out, we hit the town to take in some serious shopping. Lunenburg is untouched and retains 100% of the Victorian charm that it did when it was first settled. The shops were denoted by their wood signs hanging out front on their rawd iron hooks. It was just about perfect. We went down to the waterfront where we saw the dory shop where a family has been making the small boats for centuries. We also saw the masts for Bluenose II, the last tall schooner built in the harbor. The boat is the pride of Canada, and can be found on the back of the 10 cent piece. Lunenburg was known for its tall masted shipbuilding. Many boats remain and are beautiful accents to the park-like setting across the harbor. We stopped in a bunch of gift shops, as well as a Christmas shop. We mentioned that we were looking for sleigh bells, and as luck would have it, the owner of an antique store was there and mentioned he had some. We made some purchases and headed over to look at the bells. Meg got them for me as an early Christmas present. I always say that sleigh bells are the happiest sound in the world! After shopping, we took some photos of a beautiful church before heading out to the Ovens. Large caves formed by wave action create the Ovens, which were at a scarcely populated park. There was only a dog. It was kind of creapy being in another tourist area that was pretty much abandoned for the season. The views weren’t all the impressive either, but it didn’t cost too much and was on the way. We headed back to Halifax for our last night in Canada. Upon arriving, we checked into the Commons Inn, which wasn’t the greatest place. It was in a not so great neighborhood, and was a bit on the dirty side. Oddly enough, they were filming a movie or something across the street, so we had studio lights outside our window all night! We went out for dinner once again to our favorite restaurant in Halifax, Sweet Basil Bistro. The lobster was delicious, again! We headed back to the room to sleep before we took to the skies back to the USA. Other than losing my cell phone, we made it home safe and sound, and wishing we had another two weeks in the Maritimes!
