Another gray and damp morning greeted us, so we took full advantage of it! We took the opportunity to get Meg’s hair cut at what were pretty sure is the only barber shop / salon in Digby. It was the cheapest hair cut Meg has ever had, coming in at $12 Canadian! Meg gave her a generous tip, as even that still came up short of any other cut before. We did a little bit of shopping around town at the few shops before starting out on our way around the south western end of Nova Scotia. Not very well marked is Smuggler’s Cove. There’s a small park with a trail that leads you down to get a view of the sea caves and beautiful rock formations. It was cold and damp, so we did not spend much more time than a few clicks of the camera. We stopped in Yarmouth and visited the lighthouse. You have to drive along a man made seawall that helps protect the bay, but it’s extremely heavy duty, with curls to break waves and everything. It was a little nerve racking actually. Upon reaching the lighthouse, the wind had really picked up. It was only bearable for a short while as I snapped off a couple shots. Just like Peggy’s Cove, the lighthouse was dotted with signs and even a monument to folks lost on the rocks. It was beautiful, but very treacherous. After that, we were on to Lunenburg and to the Kaulbach House, a beautiful Victorian home turned bed and breakfast. It was well deserving of its 4 1/2 stars! They had beautiful period furniture and these awesome white painted floors. We got in a little late and headed out to try to find something to eat in town. We hit up a local pub, but they had stopped serving food. In fact, everyone had stopped serving. It was roughly 9pm. If I haven’t said it yet, Canada closes down early! We were able to find old faithful, another Tim Hortons. After a bit of chili and a sandwich, we headed back to our beautiful red room to enjoy the really comfy bed.
